History
In around April or May of 2005, the Dalhouse Student Chapter of the ACM was approached by the Dalhousie Student Union to solve a problem. The problem was that events on campus were not getting enough exposure. Mass e-mails were marked as spam. Posters would either torn down, covered up, or ignored due to the sheer number of them. Various organizations had their own websites, but getting new people to see their websites was problematic, and the sheer number of them made checking for interesting events a hassle.
Enter our project. All events can be viewed in one place. Anyone can log in and create a group and events (subject to administrator approval of course). People no longer have to waste a large amount of time and can find the events they are interested in.
Actual design began in late June. Originally, a prototype was done in PHP, but that was scrapped in favor of Ruby on Rails after a 'Blow Away Demo' given by Oliver. We ran with that, and the result is what you can see now.
