Problem

Societies, Faculties, and Departments organizes events and activities that are of interests to students all over the campus. However, it is difficult to advertise these events. Mass emails tend to be ignored as spam since not all events are of interest to all students and poster campaigns are difficult due to the number of high traffic zones on campus. Furthermore, it is not reasonable to expect students to routinely browse the Websites of all these different groups to look for events that they may be interested in.

Goal

Create a simple events posting system that can be put on any website. This will all any society, Faculty, and Department to quickly and easily post events that they are planning. This system will generate an iCal file that will be parsed and displayed. This aggregator will be the main page of the new DSU Website. This new site will provide a service to students, societies, Faculties, and Departments by summarizes all the events that will be occuring any particular week at Dalhousie. Each society will have their own iCal file which they can update as they see fit.

This system will improve the communication of events and activities to students thus increasing student awareness and participation. Higher awareness and participation will then lead to greater involvement in the DSU.
